12 Things to let go (A Fresh Start for Women Who Have Experienced Domestic Abuse and Betrayal)

As you step into a new phase of life, it’s time to let go of all the things that are holding you back from living a fulfilling life. If you are a woman who has experienced domestic abuse and betrayal, it can be especially challenging to move on from the trauma and start fresh. But, it is possible, it may not be easy, but it’s possible!

Here are 12  things that you can let go of to help you start on a  healing journey and move forward. (not in a particular order. You can decide which one is the priority for you.)

1. Fear

Fear can hold you back from taking risks and living your best life. Whether it’s fear of being hurt again, fear of failure, fear of being seen, fear of criticism, fear of not getting validated, fear of the unknown, etc, whatever your fear is, it’s time to let go of it. You have been through so much already and you are strong enough to handle whatever comes your way. Take small steps to face your fears and you’ll be surprised at how much you can accomplish.

2. Shame and Guilt

Domestic abuse and betrayal can leave you feeling ashamed and guilty. It’s not your fault that you were a victim and it’s time to let go of these feelings. Abuse is NOT your fault,  It’s time to start believing in yourself and discovering who you are and your worth.

3. Past Trauma

The past is behind you and it’s time to let it go. Focus on healing and moving forward, not dwelling on what has already happened. I know it’s easier said than done, but it’s possible! Surround yourself with supportive friends and family and seek therapy if you need it.  Take your time but don’t stop, keep moving forward.

4. Toxic Relationships

Toxic relationships can keep you trapped in the past and prevent us from moving forward. It’s time to let go of these relationships and surround yourself with people who support and uplift you.

5. Clutter in All Forms

Physical clutter can cause mental clutter, making it harder to focus and move forward. Take time to declutter your home, workspace, and even your social media accounts. Get rid of anything that no longer serves you and make room for new opportunities.

6. Perfectionism

Perfectionism can prevent us from taking risks and trying new things. It’s time to let go of the need to be perfect and embrace our imperfections. Embrace the journey and enjoy the process, not just the end result.

7. Worry

Worrying about the future or dwelling on the past can keep us stuck. It’s time to let go of this habit and focus on the present moment. Practice mindfulness and gratitude to help you stay focused and present.

8. People Pleasing

People pleasing can keep us trapped in toxic relationships and prevent us from speaking our truth. It’s time to let go of this habit and start standing up for yourself. Say no to things that don’t serve you any longer and focus on taking care of yourself. By the way, Self-Care isn’t selfish. You’re welcome.

9. Last Year’s Goals

Last year’s goals may no longer be relevant or serve you. It’s time to let go of them and focus on what you want to accomplish in the next 12 months.  Set new goals that align with your values and dreams. There’s no shame in adjusting your goals as you move forward, so if you need to, adjust it and keep moving.

10. Desire to Control Others and the Environment

The desire to control others and our environment can cause stress and prevent you from living in the moment. It’s time to let go of this habit and embrace a more relaxed and stress-free life. Focus on what you can control and let go of the rest.

11. Bad Money Habits

Bad money habits can prevent you from reaching your financial goals. It’s time to let go of these habits and develop a healthy relationship with money. Seek the help of a financial advisor if needed and start building a healthy relationship with money so you can start building a secure financial future.

12. Limiting Beliefs

Whether you're a survivor of domestic abuse or betrayal, or simply someone who wants to let go of the past and move forward, it’s time to let go of the belief that you are inherently an unlucky person with no luck or happiness is for someone else and not you, or you can’t do something. If you keep telling yourself that you were born under an unlucky star, you may not even notice happiness when it's right in front of you. The truth is,  everyone experiences hardship and life is not always filled with only good things. Pay attention to the limiting beliefs and as soon as you catch yourself thinking you can’t do something, let go of it immediately! And instead, think “How can I make it happen?” or “What’s possible?”

it’s time to let go of all the negativity and baggage that has been holding you back, my friend! Letting go of these things will bring peace and joy to your life. Remember that change is not always easy, but it's necessary for growth and happiness. Take small steps, one day at a time, and you'll soon see the benefits of letting go.
